Product Manager, HotBot

  • Led definition, design, and launch of Personalized Search application on HotBot; promoted this market-leading technology on Lycos’ west-coast press tour.
  • Managed rush deployment of GoTo/Overture paid-listing partnership, whose on-time, onspec delivery secured a multi-million dollar contractual bonus payment which proved instrumental to corporate earnings.
  • Handled post-acquisition integration of Lycos technology and business directives into HotBot’s search application and user interface; devised metrics which gauged the impact of these changes on our audience, and our bottom line.
  • Managed the development and market trial of query-disambiguation tools and natural-language search enhancements based on Cycorp technology.
  • Redesigned HotWired’s internal workflow and bug-tracking system, with an emphasis on speed & usability. This streamlined application was subsequently adopted by other development groups within Lycos US.
  • As a contractor (1997), production manager (1998), and project manager (1999), implemented a variety of large-scale software development projects, such as migrating HotBot’s code from Apache / XSSI to an IIS / ASP platform.
  • HotBot won PC Magazine’s “Editor’s Choice”, PC/Computing’s “Search Engine Shoot-out” MVP, and Forbes’ “Best of The Web” awards during this period.
